Cape Town Panostack.
Another submission to the Panostacks Tumblr. I’m enjoying making these.
The Slave Route.
I ran the Slave Route Challenge this weekend and, since I’m struggling with my knee at the moment, I took my iPhone along to take a few photos. I’m so glad I did.
The race kicked off with a cannon blast outside City Hall in Darling Street and headed slowly through the Castle of Good Hope up into what was District Six (it’s now largely empty and has been awaiting development for almost twenty years - come on Cape Town).
We then ran down Roeland Street past the Houses of Parliament, through the Company Gardens and up into the colourful Bo-Kaap where supporters where out in full force. Pentz Street is renamed Koesister Hill for the race - runners are rewarded with homemade koesisters (yes, without the ‘k’) at the top of what is surely one of the steepest hills in ten kilometer road running,
After munching on a koesister runners descended back down into the Cape Town City Bowl along Wale Street past St. George’s Cathedral, the Slave Lodge and Church Square to finish off on the Grand Parade.
Hopefully next year my knee will be in better shape and I’ll attempt the half marathon (which also heads past the V&A Waterfront).
